When to Treat

As with horses, dogs are generally treated for both specific acute problems and as part of a well-being routine. A dog may need treatment when:

  • there is muscle stiffness, soreness or spasm
  • after injury or accident
  • after an operation
  • as part of rehabilitation
  • there are behavioural changes that may be due to discomfort

Older dogs benefit from regular treatment which can help then retain mobility and avoid serious joint problems that might otherwise require surgery. It can also help to keep working and agility dogs in peak condition.

Contraindications

No dog can be treated without permission from their regular vet. Accident or injury cases must be seen by a vet first and cannot be treated within three days of the accident or injury occurring (this is the inflammatory stage). Nor can dogs suffering from any infection be treated until it has cleared.
